Within its verse, Loki gets drunk and starts a "flyting," which is a poetry battle not unlike a modern epic rap battle or a comedy roast done in poetry. During this flyting, Loki reveals the hidden scandals and secret gossip of the various gods and goddesses of the Norse pantheon. Scholars continue to debate whether his accusations should be taken seriously or seen as mere mischief. Read it for yourself and make your own choice!
Each ink drawing for "The Illustrated Lokasenna" begins as an ink blob. Staring at the ink blobs while thinking about the verse, my sub-conscious mind wanders, searching for shape and form. Using a pencil, the drawing takes shape. Once the image has emerged I use brush and ink to bring the final drawing to life. All the drawings and paintings for "The Illustrated Lokasenna" have been created by human hand with traditional art materials.
