Death of odin
Now comes to Hlin | yet another hurt,
When Othin fares | to fight with the wolf,
And Beli's fair slayer | seeks out Surt,
For there must fall | the joy of Frigg.
-Voluspo, v53, Belows Translation
At Ragnarok, the end of time in Norse mythology, the great wolf Fenris will break his bonds and defeat the god Odin. In return, one of Odin’s sons will avenge him, and kill Fenris.
I wanted to depict Fenris as a bad ass werewolf/god-of-wolves. His shoulder pad is based of off an old Norse symbol for wolves and his sword hilt is based off of the Hammer of Thor. The hand around Fenris’s neck is the hand of Tyr, the war god. Fenris bit it off back at the beginning of time, so I figured he’d hang onto it as a keepsake.
The original fantasy painting was done in oil and measures 18" x 24".
This is a signed and numbered archival print, measuring 18"x24".
The original was created in oil paint by artist Sam Flegal.
This signed and numbered edition is limited to 15 copies.
Only 9 remain.
